The now Republican controlled House of Representatives set in motion an effort to repeal Obamacare, which will be finally voted on next Wednesday. The vote to vote passed 236-181, with almost every republican for it and almost every democrat against it. Republicans aim to fufill a campaign promise by eliminating Obama's socialist health care bill, Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana swearing to "consign their government takeover to the ash heap of history where it belongs." Democrats sharply criticized Republicans for being rash and not stopping to consider any amendments and focusing on repeal of health care rather than jobs and the economy, citing a CBO (congressional budget office) report that concluded the repeal of health care would cost $230 billion over the next 10 years. Republicans say that after a recent survey 54% of Americans oppose the new law. However, only 37% of Americans oppose the law because it is too liberal, the rest agreeing with parts of the legislation. The repeal ultimately stands little or no chance of surviving both the democratically controlled senate and presidential veto.

Republicans believe that Obamacare is the wrong way to go about health care and want to replace it with clean solutions. Democrats consider Obamacare a major step against insurance monopolies. The friction these disagreements are causing is distracting the legislative branch.
